Certification and Export Promotion
Introduction to the Department of Certification and Export Promotion
The Department of Certification and Export Promotion is one of the key departments under the Directorate of Technical Operations of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS). The Department was established in 2019 to strengthen conformity assessment services, enhance product and system certification, and promote the competitiveness of South Sudanese products in domestic, regional, and international markets.
The Department derives its mandate from the National Bureau of Standards Act, 2012, which establishes the SSNBS as the national authority responsible for the development and enforcement of standards, quality assurance, conformity assessment, and related regulatory activities. The Act empowers the Bureau to formulate standards and codes of practice, promote standardization programmes, operate conformity assessment systems, and protect consumers from substandard products.
In addition, the Department implements the Use of Quality Mark Regulations, 2021, which provide the framework for the certification and use of the South Sudan Quality Mark on products that comply with applicable national standards and regulatory requirements. The Quality Mark serves as evidence that certified products have undergone conformity assessment and meet established quality and safety requirements.
