Our Functions

The main tasks of SSNBS are:

  1. The development and provision of national standards
  2. The coordination and administration of technical regulations
  3. The development of technical regulations on products and commodities for public safety, environmental protection, consumer protection and fairness in trade
  4. The provision of testing, conformity assessment and certification services
  5. The provision of quality assurance and inspection services
  6. The development and provision of national measurement standards and calibration services
  7. The provision of legal metrological control of measuring standards and instruments used in trade and for law enforcement
  8. General awareness creation on standardization, quality, and food safety
  9. Facilitate regional and international trade through harmonization of standards
  10. Representing the country in regional and international forums on standardization, quality assurance, metrology and testing
  11. Advising the government in matters pertaining to the above The operations of the SSNBS are aimed at assuring the quality of products and commodities, whether produced locally or imported:
  12. for the sake of public safety, protection of the environment, consumer protection and fairness in trade, and
  13. to assist local industry to improve acceptance of their export products in the regional and international markets.

 

What we do

SSNBS has provided various services to the public and private sector are mainly

  1. Development of National Standards and adoption of regional and international standards for industries and end users.
  2. Provide conformity assessment services such as inspection, testing, and certification to ensure compliance with standards, quality and safety requirements
  3. Calibrations and verifications of measuring instruments in production and trade
  4. Product and system certification, in support of compliance with standards or compulsory specifications where applicable.
  5. Conformity testing for compliance with regulations and standards
  6. Provide support to private sector, industries and facilitate trade
  7. Promotion of South Sudan Exports to International Markets
  8. Consumer Protection and enhancing awareness on quality culture

How SSNBS Render its services

SSNBS render it services to both public and private sector through provision of standards, and conducting conformity assessment, this may be in the form of compulsory conformity assessment and export licensing in case this is required by the trading partners at the export destination (e.g. the EU), of special significance to the government is the implementation of technical regulations and food safety measures as well as assistance to different ministries for the development of technical regulations and measures

SSNBS has offices in Juba, and main entry points to the country, including Nimule, Nadapal, Kaya, Juba International airport, Renk, Wau and Abyei.

Standards is developed through technical committee comprise of both public and private sector representative, academia, industries representatives and consumer associations.
