Key Offices
SSNBS consists of six directorates, the total number of staff is about 450 staff, with 70% of the staff having scientific background, 20% are support and administrative staff and about 10% are unclassified staff.
The following are directorate of SSNBS with their departments,
- Directorate of Administration and Finance, which consist of departments of Administration and Finance, Human Resources Development, Training, Public Relations and ICT
- Directorate of Technical Operations, which consist of departments of Standards Development, Laboratory & Testing, Quality assurance, Certification and Export promotion
- Directorate of Legal Metrology, consist departments of Legal Metrology and Hall Marking
- Directorate of Industrial Metrology, consist of Mass, and dimension Metrology lab
- Directorate of Planning, Policy Formulation Research and Statistics, consist of departments of Planning, Research and Statistics
- Directorate of States Coordination, coordination SSNBS in all 10 states and 3 administrative areas
Geographically, the Bureau’s tasks are spread over the entire country. Therefore, SSNBS offices were planned to be established in each of the States (10 States and 3 Administrative Areas).
Furthermore, there are inspection posts and checkpoints at the main border posts and other entry points into the country. State offices have been established in Wau, Malakal, Renk, Torit, and Abyei administration area, while work is ongoing to realize offices in other State capitals. At the main border, posts in Nimule there are an office including a conformity assessment laboratory to assist import inspections. Smaller offices are in place in some of the other border posts and along main trade routes such as Kaya, Yei and Nadapal. Some of the offices are not operational due to insecurity in those areas.
Financial sustainability: the SSNBS is a parastatal agency, established under the National Bureau of Standard Act 2012, all its operations is fully funded by the government, but reasonable approved fees is charged for its services and remitted to government but only 5% is return to the bureau.
